Essential Job Functions

The Director, Information Governance (Operations) leads, plans and executes a variety of IG operations including client questionnaires, client engagement document reviews, records retention reviews, client file releases, data chargeback, departing personnel, and legacy data projects. This individual serves as a senior-level Information Governance liaison and, as such, leads projects and initiatives to analyze and design automated systems and processes relating to the lifecycle management of electronic data.

This individual provides functional leadership for personnel and contractors involved in the delivery of Information Governance services in all Kirkland offices. Also responsible for eliminating the use of offsite records storage, developing records retention schedules for the firm’s administrative records, and providing contractual oversight of offsite records storage and secure destruction (shred) service providers.
 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Provides advice and proposes solutions for complex and/or technical information governance and/or information technology issues.
  • Provides leadership and direction on the use of Information Governance technologies.
  • Oversees the elimination of offsite storage of paper records through the introduction and adoption of effective electronic recordkeeping practices.
  • Works with functional leads of administrative departments and legal practitioners to identify business requirements and automate information governance processes.
  • Communicates the IG vision and IG guiding principles throughout the Firm in a variety of forums (1:1, administrative meetings, practice group meetings, partner meetings, etc.).
  • Drafts, reviews and/or presents project plans, status reports, and other information in a variety of formats and styles appropriate to the audience.
  • Advises on operational and compliance responsibilities relating to the lifecycle management of client and administrative records regardless of media or format. 
  • Coaches and mentors IG personnel on the continual improvement of their technology skills.
  • Creates and maintains records appropriate to the administration of IG Operations.
  • Leads the assessment of new and existing Firm Approved Records Repositories.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of Information Governance Operations content on SharePoint sites;
  • Leads and reviews legal research to determine records retention requirements. Analyzes records retention and disposition recommendations from various legal and professional sources;
  • Develops and maintains Risk Management policies relating to Information Governance;
  • Creates and maintains written documentation of all IG Operations processes.

Qualifications & Requirements

Candidates with an educational background from a wide variety of disciplines including information technology, legal, compliance, information management, and/or records management will be considered. A minimum of 10 years experience leading an Information Governance function or professional services team is required, and an advanced degree in information management, computer science or law is preferred. Aptitude and interest in information technologies, critical thinking, change management and project management is a must. Working knowledge of iManage WorkSite and LegalKEY a plus. Proficiency in MS Office applications required.
