Essential Job Functions

The Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP is seeking a Tax Paralegal who will support multiple attorneys and the overall practice on a variety of matters.

Essential Functions: (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  • Handles and files Section 83(b) election filings with the IRS
  • Prepares and files Form 8832 with the IRS
  • Prepares and files Form 8875 with the IRS
  • Prepares and files Form 2553 with the IRS
  • Prepares and files Form 1023 with the IRS
  • Prepares and files Form SS-4 with the IRS to obtain EINs
  • Prepares and files IRS notifications of conversion, business name change or dissolution of EIN with the IRS
  • Prepares and files Form 8822-B with the IRS
  • Prepares and files Form 966 with the IRS
  • Prepares and files Form 8023 with the IRS
  • Prepares and files Form 8869 with the IRS
  • Prepares and distributes communications to the IRS
  • Monitors and handles request from the Firm’s Tax Election Filings email distribution
  • Collaborates with supporting tax election team members
  • Prepares communications with clients and attorneys with respect to tax election filings
  • Obtains information from, and provides information to, clients
  • Obtains information from, and provides information to, attorneys regarding tax filings
  • Compiles documents and distributes for signature
  • Identifies and formulates solutions to problems which may arise
  • Collaborates with various practice groups providing support, as needed
  • Interfaces with IRS or other government agencies
  • Provides direct support to clients (using discretion to handle matters directly or involving an attorney)
  • Handles distribution of original documents
  • Maintains records utilizing DMS and other technologies, as needed

  • Any other functions/duties as assigned by management

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills:

The ideal candidate will possess experience in one or more areas including Tax, Investment Funds, M&A, private equity. The ideal candidate will possess 2+ years of paralegal experience with a bachelor’s degree preferred. Additional qualifications include excellent analytical and organizational abilities, solid communication skills, strong computer abilities, creativity, and initiative.  Flexibility for travel and overtime is required.

Technologies/Software:

  • Strong technical skills are required, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and a form of Document Management System.

Certificates, Licensures, Registrations:

  • Paralegal certification preferred

Work Environment: 

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.  This role is required to work in-office during business hours.
