Essential Job Functions

Kirkland’s Capital Markets Practice Group is experiencing phenomenal growth and has a broad mandate to integrate into all aspects of the Firm’s work for private fund sponsor and public company clients. As the Capital Markets Manager, you will liaise closely with the lawyers in the Firmwide practice and your colleagues to facilitate various projects and strategic initiatives to drive new business. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships among lawyers and staff to achieve results. Meticulous writing and proofing skills, and experience in the legal, financial services and/or professional services sectors are highly desirable.

You will also communicate and collaborate daily with the more than 140 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader business development, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. Our international marketing team provides seamless service to our attorneys, with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness. Essential Functions

  • Consult with key attorney stakeholders in the capital markets practice on the development, execution and tracking of meaningful internal and external strategic business development, and marketing initiatives and opportunities
  • Monitor and analyze market trends relevant to the capital markets and Kirkland’s client base to identify general and client-specific opportunities for business development and value-add services, including building a library of key market and competitor intelligence data
  • Collaborate with business development colleagues across the Firm’s core practice groups to identify cross-selling opportunities, and align and leverage business strategies to maximize results
  • Oversee brand-building strategies for events, including client-facing Firm-hosted seminars/webinars/client entertainment, industry conference and charitable sponsorships, speaking engagements, and other event activities related to the promotion of the capital markets practice
  • Work alongside the Firm’s broader transactional business development and public relations/communications teams to to develop clear, concise and compelling messaging and content for use in proposals, digital marketing, social media, attorney resumes, awards, survey and directory submissions, thought leadership and other profile raising initiatives
  • Collaborate with Capital Markets Practice Group leads and transactional business development colleagues on client-facing proposal/pitch materials and responses to RFPs, including conducting general and client-specific research to develop new content and bespoke pitches/presentations, as well as arranging existing content to maximize visual impact
  • Track and analyze ROI on all initiatives and outreach, including direct follow-up with attorneys to capture results and feedback to develop best practices for future opportunities and the maintenance of key client connections/contacts and related activities in the Firm’s CRM
  • Monitor the capital markets business development spend and ensure that all initiatives are effectively coordinated and executed
  • Contribute and assist in the development of Firmwide experience database

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • A four-year degree is required
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience within professional services with proven business development, client development or marketing experience is required.
  • Experience working in legal, financial services and/or securities industries is highly desirable.
  • Background in business intelligence, target research and client prospecting.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including an innate ability to communicate to the stakeholders on overall efforts, progress and results.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and be able to easily pivot as deadlines and priorities move and change, while maintaining a problem-solving and solutions focused mentality and work ethic.

Technologies/Software

  • A solid command of a number of different software applications to produce high-end, professional work product, including extensive experience in PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience with various market intelligence and research platforms, including CapIQ, Deal Point Data, Intelligize, Refinitiv, Bloomberg, Mergermarket, and Pitchbook is preferred
  • Experience with Content Pilot, InterAction or an equivalent Contact Relationship Management (CRM) system is a plus

Work Environment

  • This role requires interaction with attorneys and administrative personnel on a regular basis, as well as communicating deal information to various groups within the Business Development Department. The successful candidate will possess outstanding proofreading and communication (oral and written) skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment with meticulous attention to detail and a professional demeanor.
