Essential Job Functions

The New York office of Kirkland & Ellis is seeking a Legal Recruiting Assistant to support the New York Legal Recruiting team on all aspects of the summer associate program, on-campus recruiting, clerk recruiting, campus outreach/sponsorships, diversity initiatives, and first year associate recruiting and onboarding.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, possess excellent proofing and communication (oral and written) skills; the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment; a very strong attention to detail; and a professional demeanor.  Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships among attorneys, students and staff to achieve results.  Candidate must be flexible to work overtime as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Summer Associate Program
  • Collect/process new hire paperwork and maintain recruiting files and documents
  • Assist with Summer Associate onboarding including background and conflicts check processes, and preparing forms for Human Resources
  • Assist with planning and implementation of orientation
  • Research venues, plan, and attend events
  • Create calendar invitations, surveys and track RSVPs for events
  • Prepare materials for summer reviews


  • Maintain viDesktop applicant records
  • Prepare materials for interviewers and candidates
  • Assist with logistics of callback interviews
  • Collect interview feedback to present to Recruiting Committee and assist in follow-up efforts
  • Assist with planning and implementation of offer receptions/dinners
  • Send correspondence to students through viDesktop
  • Assist with candidate travel expense reimbursements and shared expenses
  • Submit summer program and OCI feedback forms to schools using Symplicity
  • Assist with all aspects of 1L, 3L and clerk hiring

Campus Outreach and Diversity Initiatives

  • Maintain campus outreach and sponsorship tracking documents
  • Create and send boxes of promotional materials for on-campus events
  • Enter 1L outreach information and attorney feedback into viDesktop
  • Assist with 2L Diversity Fellowship tracking
  • Assist planning of campus 1L receptions/events
  • Maintain giveaway inventory tracker and keep swag closet organized


  • Assist with first year associate onboarding
  • Process department invoices and expenses in ChromeRiver
  • Miscellaneous administrative duties such as creating nametags, answering phones, booking conference rooms, tracking shipments, filing, scanning, copying
  • Oversee seasonal temps and interns
  • Draft email and letter correspondence
  • Respond actively, thoroughly, and courteously to the needs of all clients
  • Work effectively and willingly with others
  • Independently liaise and coordinate with firm departments
  • Other projects as assigned by the Legal Recruiting & Development team

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of one year of professional work experience preferred, preferably in law firm environment


  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote
  • viDesktop experience preferred

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
