Essential Job Functions

POSITION OVERVIEW

Kirkland’s ESG & Impact practice is a rapidly growing practice with the broad mandate to integrate ESG and impact considerations into all aspects of our work for private fund sponsor and public company clients. As the Manager, you will liaise closely with the lawyers in the team to facilitate various projects and strategic initiatives to drive the development of new business. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships among lawyers and staff to achieve results. Meticulous writing and proofing skills and experience in the legal, professional services and/or financial services sectors are highly desirable.

You will also communicate and collaborate daily with the more than 135 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader BD, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. Our international marketing team provides seamless service to our attorneys, with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • ESG Business Intelligence. Monitor and analyze ESG market trends relevant to law firm ESG practices and Kirkland’s client base in order to identify general and client-specific opportunities for business development and client value-add.
  • Preparation and Maintenance of Business Development Materials. Collaborate with ESG & Impact practice group leaders to maintain existing and prepare new decks, one-pagers, and other client-facing content, including conducting general and client-specific research to develop new content and bespoke pitches and presentations, as well as arranging existing content to maximize visual impact.
  • ESG Event Planning. Identify, vet, and plan sponsorship of and participation in select ESG- and impact-focused events that will enhance Kirkland’s brand, and coordinate with Business Development colleagues across the firm to maximize ESG opportunities at existing Firm-sponsored events.
  • Marketing. Collaborate with the Communications Team to market the ESG & Impact practice internally and externally, including through presentations to firm leadership and other practice groups, newsletters, ESG & Impact practice group and individual attorney webpages, social media, awards, and other profile raising initiatives.
  • Identification of Cross-Selling Opportunities. Work with colleagues in collaborating practice groups to identify cross-selling opportunities for ESG and implement strategies to capture those opportunities, including incorporating ESG into applicable pitches and proposals developed by other practice groups.
  • Budgeting. Manage ESG Practice Marketing & Development Budget and ensure that all initiatives are effectively coordinated to extract maximum return on investment.
  • Assistance with Special Projects and Other Tasks. Assist the ESG & Impact practice group leaders and other collaborators with various strategic initiatives and other tasks, such as developing an ESG & Impact dashboard with statistics and information on the practice and its key clients, executing training programs, building a library of key market intelligence data, and maintaining internal and external mailing lists. 

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 7+ years of business development and marketing experience gained within professional services (e.g., law firm, management or sustainability consulting, investment banking, private equity, etc.)
  • Experience and interest in ESG and sustainability, and subject matter knowledge of how ESG intersects with private equity and public company business and operations
  • Advanced research skills across legal and business resources and topics relevant to ESG, including ability to leverage electronic resources such as Preqin, Intelligize, Capital IQ, MSCI, and others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills, with meticulous attention to detail and ability to multitask and set, communicate, and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Powerpoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, and OneNote
  • Strong work ethic and ability to think strategically and creatively, as well as collaborate effectively with a diverse range of personalities

Technologies/Software

  • MS Office software proficiency, with expertise in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel required
  • CRM/Experience Management Software (e.g., InterAction, Salesforce, ContentPilot, etc.) and transaction/private funds platform (e.g., Preqin, PitchBook, Cap IQ) experience preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
  • Overtime work will be needed.
