Essential Job Functions

We are seeking an assistant to support the marketing/business development efforts of the Firm’s Technology & IP Transactions practice. You will serve as a valuable resource to the Business Development (BD) team and be responsible for the research, collection, entry and maintenance of historical and current transactional experience.

This role has a strong focus on the research and analysis of press releases, news items, deal documents and information from a variety internal and external market intelligence platforms. You will need to be comfortable in an internal database environment and have the ability to simply (and concisely) convey complex information.

You will report to the Director of Intellectual Property BD with additional reporting to the Associate Director of Practice Intelligence.

In addition to the core responsibilities, you will communicate, collaborate and interact daily with more than 135 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader business development, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm, as well as attorneys and other administrative professionals. Our international marketing team provides seamless service to our attorneys, with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness.   • Engage in thoughtful, comprehensive research of the Firm’s transactions across a wide breadth of industries, geographies and transaction types using a variety of  internal and external resources, including The Deal Pipeline, Capital IQ, Pitchbook, Corporate Affiliations and others
  • Accurately capture and maintain comprehensive transaction deals in the Firm’s experience database
  • Collaborate with other members of the practice intelligence team to refine and improve the existing database


  • Assist with various other marketing initiatives that intersect with other functional areas within the marketing context

Qualifications & Requirements

Strong organization and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with high-level attorneys, staff and guests of the Firm are a must. You should be able to work independently while making intelligent, informed decisions. Kirkland demands quality work from every employee (often in high-pressure and deadline-driven scenarios) so you need to be able to multi-task and prioritize effectively. A history of taking initiative is essential to success in this position. We are looking for a true achiever with a drive to succeed.

The position demands meticulous data entry, writing and proofing skills, and you need to possess a general facility for learning new software. A Bachelor’s degree is required. One to two years of professional experience is required and law firm and/or database experience are a plus.

  • Microsoft Office Suite (proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel are required)
  • Market intelligence platforms, including BoardEx, Capital IQ, The Deal Pipeline, Pitchbook and Corporate Affiliations
  • Database/CRM Software (e.g., ContentPilot, InterAction, etc.)

Work Environment

This role requires interaction with attorneys and administrative personnel on a regular basis, as well as communicating deal information to various groups within the Business Development Department. The successful candidate will possess outstanding proofreading and communication (oral and written) skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment with meticulous attention to detail and a professional demeanor.
