Essential Job Functions

The Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP is seeking a Firmwide Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator to advance Kirkland’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives while collaborating with various attorneys and functional teams at at the Firm.  

The Firmwide Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator initially will report to the Global Director of Diversity and Inclusion and will be an integral member of the Firmwide Diversity and Inclusion team.  The Coordinator will provide support for various committees and groups providing leadership in the DEI arena.  Primary responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, coordinating promoting DEI programs, events, budgets, sponsorships, awards and internal and external communications, organizing DEI-related marketing materials, researching industry trends, and preparing detailed analyses of internal and peer firm initiatives The Coordinator will also contribute to other duties and special projects as assigned to advance our attorney recruiting, retention and promotion efforts.


  • Coordination of DEI programming, budgeting, sponsorships, events and awards
  • Facilitation of events and programs with external organizations aligned with our DEI inclusion strategy and relationship-building with the leaders/primary contacts of these DEI organizations
  • Conducting ongoing research on DEI developments, potential programs and policy updates
  • Scheduling and facilitation of committee meetings as necessary
  • Coordination of internal and external diversity-related communications, in concert with other team members, including the Firm website and other DEI marketing materials
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Global Director of Diversity and Inclusion,  including analysis and reporting for the Diversity & Inclusion Task Force and Diversity & Inclusion Committee and Subcommittees

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of HR or related experience in a professional services environment is required (law firm experience preferred)
  • The ideal candidate:

- will be highly organized, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and meet concrete deadlines, have a positive/can-do attitude and be a solid team player;

- will have the ability to perform analytical work with a high level of attention to detail and high standards for proofreading and accuracy; and

- will maintain positive relationships, both internally and externally, while maintaining a client service orientation and using sound independent judgment and discretion in dealing with highly confidential information (required)

  • Familiarity with research and reporting is required; working knowledge of Excel is a must.
  • A demonstrated interest in DEI and women’s issues is required.


  • Advanced familiarity with standard office technology applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, with particular emphasis on PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel (including v-lookup and pivot tables) is required.
