Essential Job Functions


We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized assistant to support the marketing and business development efforts supporting various litigation, IP and transactional practice areas as part of the Business Development (BD) team in our Washington, D.C. office.  This position will be onsite in the Washington, DC Office.

The assistant will handle a variety of functions, including events, pitches and RFP/proposals, contact relationship management (CRM), branding, business/relationship intelligence/research, and internal communications, among others.

You will report to the Associate Director in Washington, D.C. and will work closely with other local and Firmwide team members. The assistant will also communicate and collaborate daily with the more than 100 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader BD, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. Our international marketing team provides seamless service to our attorneys, with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness.


  • Assist in the production of marketing collateral and pitch materials, responses to RFPs and client presentations, including proofreading, formatting (must have exceptional PowerPoint skills), editing, printing, binding and delivery.
  • Coordinate and manage all deliverables and deadlines associated with industry conference and charitable sponsorships, speaking engagements, client entertainment and other events related to the promotion of the various practice groups for the Washington, D.C.
  • Assist with event planning and execution of seminars, receptions and client events from inception to execution
  • Manage and maintain the integrity of the client data in the Firm’s contact relationship management (CRM) system, including the review and creation of mailing lists used for direct mail campaigns.
  • Conduct research and prepare intelligence reports on clients, potential clients, competitors and target industries.
  • Help with survey responses and award submissions as needed.
  • Flexibility for overtime is a must.


  • Provide administrative assistance, including budgeting and reporting, as needed to the DC Associate Director, DC Office and BD department.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required and one to two years’ experience is preferred, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Familiarity with the pitch process, a basic understanding of Kirkland’s legal disciplines (e.g., transactional, litigation, IP, restructuring) and/or private equity sector experience would be helpful.
  • Production of Department materials requires strong writing and proofing skills. Spelling and grammar are very important to maintain professional standards. 
  • Excellent client service orientation, interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to forge and maintain effective internal and external relationships and comfortable interacting with various levels of personnel. Strong ability to adapt to change and thrive in fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to organize and manage a diverse range of assignments/projects and prioritize multiple tasks. Must be able to think quickly in deadline situations, find appropriate avenues, both internally and externally, for resolution and be able to weigh options to achieve the best outcome.
  • A history of taking initiative and working with minimal supervision is essential to success in this position. Must be a high achiever, with a drive to succeed.
  • Ability to thrive in an electronic environment and utilize technology to deliver information. Proficiency in methods of information acquisition, including the use of online information databases, tools and resources.


  • MS Office software proficiency, with expertise in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel are required.
  • CRM/Database Software (e.g., InterAction, Salesforce, ContentPilot, etc.) experience are preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Chrome River, Adobe Photoshop and other programs is a plus.
