Essential Job Functions


We seek a Marketing Communications Manager to support a range of integrated content marketing activities that communicate Kirkland’s unique culture and employer brand, and enhance the Firm’s reputation. The manager will be passionate about the power of stories and will craft compelling narratives that track against business goals and opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have experience across a variety of channels and mediums, including video, podcasts, social media, email and print. The manager will bring strong project management skills and the ability to effectively lead, influence and collaborate with project contributors -- including internal subject matter experts, colleagues in the PR, digital marketing, social media and branding and creative teams -- as well as agency partners. 

The role will contribute to both internal and external initiatives as part of a team with a hands on, get-it-done ethos. The position will report to the Firmwide Communications/PR Director based in Chicago and must work effectively as part of a close-knit and growing global communications function. You will communicate and collaborate daily with diverse problem-solvers across the Firm’s Business Development, Legal Recruiting & Development, Pro Bono and Diversity & Inclusion Teams. You will also work directly with Firm leadership and senior partners.

Agency experience is a plus. Experience and familiarity with professional services is preferred.


  • Serve as an advisor and strategic consultant to internal subject matter experts to articulate business and communication goals, and conceptualize and execute compelling campaigns
  • Build consensus and positive collaborative relationships to produce results relating to marketing communications
  • Draft and edit emails, brochures, website content, one-pagers, newsletters, video scripts, podcast scripts, social media campaigns, advertisements, bios and other communication materials
  • Ensure consistent identity and voice in communications
  • Create organizational tools to assist in the overall administration of communications projects
  • Lead and develop communications coordinators and assistants
  • Identify, vet and manage agency/vendor resources as needed for certain projects. Explore and understand the landscape of technologies, tools and platforms for communications
  • Contribute to and support other projects as needed

Qualifications & Requirements

Education and/or experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism or public relations
  • At least seven years of experience in communications and/or marketing roles, preferably in an agency or professional services environment
  • Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills; Command of AP style and journalistic writing principles
  • Intellectual curiosity and the ability to distill complex topics into concise, easy-to-read language
  • Excellent attention to detail and exceptional organizational and project management skills
  • Proficient with technology applications, including Microsoft Office Suite; Experience with design software and tools (Adobe) is helpful
  • Must be able to multitask and juggle competing deadlines
  • A client service mindset and a sense of urgency in answering requests from attorneys, other administrative staff and external contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills necessary to maintain effective relationships with internal and external contacts; A professional and polished demeanor
  • The ability to work with and report to staff in various offices across multiple time zones

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
