Essential Job Functions


The Payroll Tax Analyst will support the Associate Director, Payroll and Payroll Manager with payroll tax compliance matters as well as strategic payroll tax projects. Primary responsibility will be to ensure U.S. payroll tax processes are executed per defined internal policies and Federal/State/Local agencies requirements. There will be opportunities to provide project and operational support in other areas of the payroll function.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  • Ensure all semi-monthly and quarterly tax deposits and filings are processed accurately and timely
  • Register companies with state and local jurisdictions for payroll tax reporting and ensure they are setup in the payroll system
  • Respond timely to payroll tax inquiries and requests while safeguarding the confidentiality of payroll information
  • Investigate and respond to tax authority notices and correspondence in a timely manner
  • Research relevant tax laws and regulations to ensure filing requirements are met
  • Support the Firm’s W2 process, as well as W2-c’s and track amendment processing
  • Develop enhanced payroll tax procedures and documentation
  • Collaborate with the Payroll, HR, and Tax teams on system testing for PeopleSoft payroll software system updates, including tax updates and system enhancements for any payroll related regulatory changes
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues in Human Resources and IT to provide quality seamless customer service on all payroll related issues
  • Participate in other payroll-related tasks and projects as needed

Qualifications & Requirements


  • The successful candidate will have 5+ years of multi-state payroll experience (law firm/professional services organization experience preferred), showing progressive growth in responsibilities
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related fields is required; CPP certification is preferred 
  • Extensive knowledgeable of federal, state and local regulations including tax, audit and reporting laws is required
  • Strong customer service orientation and a commitment to excellence are required. The candidate must be motivated, proactive, and self-confident
  • Able to adapt to changes in priorities and displays a sense of ownership as it relates to their responsibilities
  • A candidate must have meticulous attention to detail in addition to strong analytical, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work with all professional levels and maintain confidentiality is critical; must be a team player who can also work independently


  • MS Office with emphasis on Excel and Word skills
  • Payroll software (PeopleSoft preferred)


  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
