Essential Job Functions


The Legislative Assistant will assist with all phases of congressional and regulatory investigations as well as the day-to-day operations of the group more generally.  Investigations by Congress can vary in scope and complexity, some last months or years and involve significant discovery, interviews, client testimony, and congressional reports, while others may only require fast-paced preparation for a single hearing. The Legislative Assistant will be responsible for assisting the group navigate these processes by providing critical organizational and substantive support. Some key tasks that the Legislative Assistant will own, include:

  • Monitor relevant news coverage and congressional hearings and draft succinct summaries.
  • Monitor social media and other platforms for key statements from lawmakers that may be of client interest.
  • Compile video clips from prior hearings for use in preparing witnesses.
  • Compile committee bios and compendiums of recent relevant statements by lawmakers regarding clients.
  • Research historical and current congressional activity.
  • Research key issues, litigation, enforcement actions, and other topics of relevance to clients.
  • Draft slide decks for use in hearing prep sessions.
  • Draft client alerts on timely developments.
  • Draft summaries of committee reports and other congressional developments.
  • Assist with revising client pitches and requests for proposals.
  • Assist with drafting briefing materials, key messaging, and potential questions to be posed by lawmakers.
  • Assist with document collection, production, organization, and management.
  • Assist with preparation for witness interviews, including compiling materials.
  • Assist with hearing preparation logistics, including mock hearing planning and coordination, scheduling, building binders, etc.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Interest in the legislative process, congressional investigations, and oversight more broadly
  • Hill or political research experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines
  • High technological proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe
  • Very strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work overtime
