Essential Job Functions

Kirkland & Ellis is seeking a seasoned, energetic development professional to support the marketing and business development efforts of the Austin office as part of the Texas Business Development (BD) team.

The BD Specialist, in collaboration with the Texas BD team, will handle a variety of functions, including pitches and proposals, events, contact relationship management, branding, business/relationship intelligence and internal communications.

Reporting to the BD Associate Director in Houston, this role will also communicate and collaborate daily with the more than 100 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader BD, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. Our international marketing team provides seamless service to our attorneys, with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  • Consulting with key stakeholders on the development and execution of meaningful strategic business development and marketing initiatives for the region
  • Working alongside the Texas BD team and practice development BD colleagues to develop clear, concise and compelling messaging and content for use in proposals, digital marketing, attorney resumes and survey and directory submissions
  • Collaborating with the Global BD team to help align business strategy and cross-collaboration efforts
  • Researching, developing and managing on-point visibility opportunities, such as regional sponsorship opportunities, industry seminars and speaking opportunities to increase an individual or the group’s profile
  • Producing client-facing proposal materials, responses to RFPs and client presentations, including proofreading, formatting (must have exceptional PowerPoint skills), editing, printing, binding and delivery
  • Updating data in the Firm’s marketing contact relationship management (CRM) database, including the review and creation of mailing lists used for direct mail campaigns
  • Working alongside the Texas Events group to put together client events and to assist with other event requests
  • Working with all functions of the greater BD team, including Operations, Development, Systems, Communications and Business Intelligence.
  • Coordinating with the PR team to ensure coverage of successful matters, regional initiatives and ensure that significant matters are publicized internally and externally
  • Conducting online and database research and prepare intelligence reports on clients, qualified prospects, competitors and industries of interest

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

Strong organization and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with high-level attorneys, staff and guests of the Firm are a must. You should be able to work independently while making intelligent, informed decisions. We are looking for a true achiever with a drive to succeed. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, an outgoing and client-friendly personality and the demeanor to interact in a positive and professional manner with clients and potential clients in a variety of settings. 

The model candidate will possess outstanding proofreading and communication (oral and written) skills; the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment, very strong attention to detail and a professional demeanor. The position demands meticulous attention to detail, writing and proofing skills, and you need to possess a general facility for learning new software. A Bachelor’s degree is required. Familiarity with the pitch process, a basic understanding of Kirkland’s legal disciplines and/or private equity, technology and/or energy sector experience would be helpful. Private equity, hedge fund or investment banking experience is preferred. Law firm experience will be considered.

Technologies/Software

  • MS Office software proficiency, with expertise in PowerPoint, Word and Excel are required.
  • CRM/Database Software (e.g., InterAction, Salesforce, ContentPilot, etc.) experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Chrome River, InterAction, Microsoft Sharepoint, Adobe Photoshop and other programs is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones and photocopiers.
