Essential Job Functions

This position is responsible for the conflicts search and analysis process and will be expected to remain aware of the needs of the Firm and the Risk Management Department.  The Conflicts Supervisor is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the conflicts search and analysis process for business intake, new/lateral hire legal staff, and restructuring/debtor processes. The major focus of the position will be quality of outcomes, workflow analysis/adjustments, and exceptional customer service.  This individual will work closely with all members of the Business Intake & Conflicts Department, attorneys, and their assistants.  This position reports to the Conflicts Manager and is subject to all the same needs that may arise in aiding the Firm’s Office of the General Counsel, Risk Management, and the business intake and conflicts area in general.

  • Assist attorneys and staff in the identification, clearance and resolution of conflicts of interest; consult with attorneys, Office of the General Counsel and Risk Management team, as necessary, to receive guidance on the identification, clearance and resolution of conflicts of interest and business related issues discovered during the search and analysis process.
  • Supervise and participate in the review and clearance of all incoming lawyers, other legal personnel and staff. Responsible for overseeing the process of clearing new/lateral legal hires for conflicts of interest and facilitating the onboarding of partners.
  • Oversee and assist with conflicts clearance and disclosure requirements related to the Firm’s debtor client representations including drafting of disclosures and schedules to be filed with the court.
  • Supervise daily workflow to ensure that conflicts search and analysis needs are met for the department and Firm (business intake, restructuring, new hires).  Establish conflicts analysis protocols and monitor work product for consistency and accuracy of searching and analysis.
  • Assist in coordinating the assignment and monitoring the progress of conflicts searching in the department (business intake, restructuring, new hires).
  • Oversee the organization and collaboration of large analysis projects. 
  • Constantly review, assess, recommend, and implement process, procedure, and technology improvements to ensure optimum customer service and efficiency.
  • In conjunction with the other Conflicts Supervisors and Conflicts Manager, identify staffing needs for the dedicated conflicts analysis team, including new positions, new hires, and terminations.
  • Supervise and evaluate members of the team dedicated to conflicts analysis (pre-engagement, restructuring, and new hire).  Organize training of new employees. Including documentation updates, on-gong training sessions, and scheduled peer review. Meet regularly with members of the team.
  • Be available for urgent and confidential situations, including evenings and weekends. Be available 24/7 via mobile device.
  • Work together with department management to deliver quarterly, annual, and ad hoc, performance, management, statistical, and other reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess five to seven years of related experience, including conflicts searching or similar process management/risk management experience required.  Must have the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects at once while meeting deadlines and working in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision. Four year college degree required. Advanced degree, J.D. or M.B.A. preferred. Candidate must have strong organizational skills; must be multitasked with exceptional writing and oral communication skills; strict attention to detail; and possess strong interpersonal skills. Studies in areas directly applicable to the duties described above (e.g. business administration, project management, management, paralegal/legal assistant, finance) desirable but not required depending upon other professional and educational experience. Previous supervisory experience and demonstrated leadership abilities is a plus.
