Essential Job Functions

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Knowledge Services Research Analyst is responsible for supporting the Firm’s transactional practice group Knowledge Management Attorneys (KMs), with in-depth research requests, and data analysis.  A broad knowledge of the content and functionality of relevant third party research tools is essential.  The research findings are often used for client facing materials so accuracy and the ability to present data in easily digestible charts and tabular formats is necessary.

Knowledge Management is an important function and the KM Attorneys frequently require support with new and ongoing research projects. The post holder manages the handling of this work and offers innovative solutions when required. An ability to think creatively is an advantage.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  • Perform non-legal research for the Knowledge Attorneys on, but not limited to, business, corporate and financial transactions.
  • Assist the Knowledge Attorneys with the generation of regular reports on public company deal data using third party vendor tools such as Deal Point Data and FactSet, and be able to advise on the best resources to use.
  • Keep up to date on the development of content and functionality of third party vendor tools relevant to the business of the Firm, including developing relationships with vendor account managers.
  • Co-ordinate large research projects involving members of the Research team and provide training on the use of certain research tools and ways to present data.
  • Monitor legal and business news resources and provide KMs with relevant updates.
  • Support other Knowledge Services staff in responding to attorney and client requests for customized reports using Excel or data visualization dashboards to create charts and graphs suitable for internal and external use, as appropriate.
  • Work closely with the Knowledge Attorneys and other Knowledge Services staff on projects relating to the further development of internal knowledge tools and repositories.
  • Work closely with other Knowledge Services team members on obtaining data for regular client updates as compiled by the KMs.
  • Any other functions/duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably with a Master’s degree in library science, business or law.
  • Experience of working for a law, finance or professional services organization.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Process-oriented with great attention to detail and technical acuity.
  • Strong administrative and information management skills.
  • The ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks and set priorities.
  • Dynamic, proactive personality.

Technologies/Software

  • Experience of the following subscription databases would be helpful - Deal Point Data, Capital IQ, Bloomberg Law, Factset, Intelligize, Xtract Research, Debtwire.
  • MS Office with an emphasis in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Some experience of SharePoint is an advantage.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Qlik or Tableau is a plus.

Tools and Equipment

  • This role operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones and MFDs.
