Essential Job Functions

Kirkland & Ellis is seeking an enthusiastic, organized coordinator to support the marketing and business development efforts of the Firm’s Investment Funds Group as part of the Marketing/Business Development (BD) team in our New York office.

In this role, you will handle a variety of functions for the Invest Funds Group (IFG), including drafting and editing client presentations and proposals, organizing and managing events, contact relationship management (CRM), branding, business/relationship intelligence, and internal communications.

Kirkland’s IFG is one of the largest dedicated fund formation practices in the world, and has a broad and diverse client base, including many multibillion dollar fund managers as well as middle and lower-middle-market private equity sponsors. As the IFG BD Coordinator, you will interface regularly with attorneys who are located across the U.S., Europe and Asia, and who cover several different areas of fund formation and industry/product groups.

You will report to the Investment Funds BD Associate Director in New York and will work closely with 20+ other local team members, and will also communicate and collaborate regularly with a global team of more than 100 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader BD, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborating with and supporting the Business Development/Marketing team and IFG attorneys to understand market position, develop strategic plans and drive marketing efforts to maintain and grow the practice and our industry position.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of bespoke marketing collateral and client-facing presentations/pitch materials, responses to RFPs, panel and client presentations, and participate in activities including drafting, proofreading, formatting (candidate must have exceptional PowerPoint skills), editing, printing, binding and delivery.
  • Provide research, coordination and other logistical assistance in connection with the origination and execution of new business pitches and related client development meetings and activities, including Zoom and other video/webinar platforms.
  • Coordinate simultaneous events and assist the Events Manager with event planning, execution of virtual and in-person seminars and receptions, industry conferences and charitable sponsorships, speaking engagements, client entertainment and other events related to the promotion of the Investment Funds Group.
  • Manage information in the Firm’s CRM system, including the review and creation of mailing lists used for direct mail campaigns, assist with recording activities, including client meetings and current contact information, and assist with other meaningful back end data entry activities in CRM and SharePoint databases.
  • Provide updates to the IFG attorneys’ resume collection for the website and proposals/client presentations, including the facilitation of an annual resume audit.
  • Coordinate with the Media Relations team to ensure coverage of successful fund and deal closings, initiatives, and ensure that significant matters are publicized internally and externally in accordance with the Firm's PR policy.
  • Coordinate the compilation and submission of materials and references for the Investment Funds Group in connection with various legal industry guides, e.g., Chambers, Legal 500, PEI, etc.
  • In coordination with the Business Intelligence team, research and prepare intelligence reports on potential investment funds clients, existing clients, competitors and target industries.
  • Conduct secondary research on private equity sponsors and their funds and investments using Preqin, PitchBook, CapIQ and other research tools.
  • Look up data on the SEC website including pulling form ADVs, SEC speeches and SEC examination priorities lists.
  • Work with Branding & Creative to expand upon existing Firm templates to bring a distinct level of graphic design, creativity and visual impact to the Group’s marketing materials in keeping with overall brand standards.
  • Handle other requests or projects on an as-needed basis.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Provide administrative assistance, including budgeting and reporting, as needed to the Investment Funds BD Associate Director, NY Office and BD Department.

Education, Work Experience, Skills

Strong organization and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with high-level attorneys, staff and clients of the Firm are a must. They must possess strong project management skills, a very strong attention to detail and a professional demeanor, and have outstanding proofreading and communication (oral and written) skills; the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment; meticulous attention to detail; sound judgement; a general facility for learning new software; and a professional demeanor. A Bachelor’s degree is required. Familiarity with client presentations/pitch process, a basic understanding of Kirkland’s legal disciplines and/or private equity sector experience would be helpful. The ability to synthesize data, complex financial and legal concepts and accurately capture ideas and themes in a narrative will be particularly helpful. Alternative investment management (i.e., private equity, placement agent) or investment banking experience is preferred. Law firm experience will be considered.

Technologies/Software

  • MS Office software proficiency, with expertise in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel are required.
  • CRM/Experience Management Software (e.g., InterAction, Salesforce, ContentPilot, etc.) and transaction/private funds platform (e.g., Preqin, PitchBook, Cap IQ) experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Chrome River, Microsoft SharePoint, Adobe Photoshop and other programs is a plus.

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
  • Overtime work will be needed.
