Essential Job Functions

As a member of the Firmwide Legal Recruiting and Development Department (“LRD”), the Legal Recruiting Manager for the Washington, D.C. office will provide strategic direction and implementation for attorney recruiting at the local office level, while executing FW initiatives and strategy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

Attorney Recruiting

  • Manage the lateral recruiting process, including meeting with partners to determine staffing needs and recruiting talent both directly through existing relationships in the market and through relationships with external legal recruiters and headhunters.
  • Manage all aspects of law student recruiting efforts, including on-campus interviews, callbacks, offer dinners, 1L hiring, 1L recruiting events and campus outreach activities.
  • Manage all administrative aspects involved in on-campus and entry level recruiting, including registering for on-campus interviewing programs, job fairs, and student outreach events. Maintain a calendar of events.
  • Oversee and implement all aspects of the Summer Associate Program, including planning and attending summer associate events, managing work assignments and the review process.
  • Build strategic relationships with Career Services professionals, law student groups and affinity groups to advance the Firm’s recruiting strategies.
  • Maintain candidate files for all open positions and all active candidates.
  • Prepare offer packages and welcome notices, including firm announcements for new hires.
  • Act as a “Brand Ambassador” to help raise the profile of the Kirkland & Ellis brand and Legal Recruiting & Development within the Washington. D.C. legal market.

Attorney Orientation

  • Coordinate and oversee the new associate orientation program.
  • Coordinate and oversee the lateral orientation program

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assist with attorney and summer associate on-boarding, including development of local and Firmwide orientation programs.
  • Prepare annual goals and budget.
  • Review and approve attorney recruiting expenses.
  • Attend regular FW Legal Recruiting & Development team calls and provide necessary metrics, reports, and FW project outcomes as needed.
  • Manage the D.C. legal recruiting team members to ensure seamless operation of the department.
  • Schedule recurring D.C. legal recruiting team meetings.
  • Schedule recurring meetings with the D.C. attorney recruiting leads and ensure established goals are met.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and management experience in a law firm or professional service industry, preferably with strategic recruitment and professional development experience.  Candidates must have 7-10 years preferred experience with strong interpersonal skills, supervisory, and communication skills, project management and change management experience, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.  The ability to work effectively with all levels of management, and across all Kirkland departments and offices, is required.  Familiarity with survey and statistical reporting is required.

Technologies/Software

Computer proficient with knowledge and understanding of various database systems including viDesktop, Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
