Essential Job Functions

This position will support the Business Intelligence (BI) efforts of the Firm, as part of the Marketing & Business Development (BD) Department. Business Intelligence is one of the fastest-growing areas in the Firm, pairing information with insight to equip our partners with vital knowledge and drive new business initiatives forward. As Coordinator, you will sit at the core of the BI team, dealing with the lifeblood of strategic decision making: data.

Key responsibilities include mining a variety of resources to create intelligence briefings, compiling competitive metrics, and providing research support for cross-marketing and targeting projects. You will also be involved in some of the BI team’s proactive market monitoring initiatives, and will have a seat at the table to inform these efforts. This position will focus mostly on Kirkland’s transactional practice, and you should have general knowledge of how private equity firms function, as well as an understanding of the basic elements of an M&A transaction, and the ability to distinguish between various types of deals.

This position will report to the BI Manager in New York with additional guidance from the Global BI Associate Director and the New York BD Director. The BI group operates alongside nearly 100 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to Kirkland’s overall business development, marketing and communications function. Our international team provides seamless service to some of the brightest minds in the legal industry, with an emphasis on quality, innovation and responsiveness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Gather and vet data from various sources/databases to compile a variety of intelligence briefings, including (but not limited to):
    • company / private equity firm profiles
    • relationship intelligence documents
    • biographical dossiers
  • Monitor alerts and news flow to support proactive BI team initiatives
  • Conduct research in support of cross-marketing, industry targeting, and or competitive intelligence/benchmarking projects
  • Maintain best practices with regard to data collection and mining, including internal database audits and updates

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Manage additional research and organizational functions as assigned by management
  • Assist with various initiatives that intersect with other functional areas within the marketing context
  • Provide administrative assistance as needed to the Global BI Associate Director and New York BI Manager

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree and at least three years’ experience is required, preferably in a legal, finance-related, or professional services organization
  • Excellent client service orientation and listening skills, with comfort interacting with key Business Development and senior Firm personnel
  • Proven ability to organize and manage a diverse range of projects, prioritizing multiple tasks with competing deadlines (at times in high-pressure situations)
  • Meticulous methods of information acquisition, compilation, and communication (including the use of online information databases, tools and resources); attention to detail is imperative
  • Solid analytical skill, with the ability to absorb, refine, and concisely convey complex information
  • Strong interpersonal skills to cultivate meaningful team and stakeholder relationships. Diplomacy, intellectual curiosity, and a positive attitude/sense of humor is preferred
  • Ability to work independently while making intelligent, informed decisions; a successful candidate will take initiative and anticipate needs

Technologies/Software

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, particularly an expertise with Excel, PowerPoint and Word, is required; candidates must complete an Excel and PowerPoint test.
  • Experience with Adobe and SharePoint are preferred. Working knowledge of Chrome River and/or InterAction is a plus
