Essential Job Functions

Kirkland & Ellis is seeking an energetic, organized assistant to support the marketing and business development efforts of the Firm’s Investment Funds Practice Group as part of the Business Development (BD) team in our New York office.

The assistant will handle a variety of functions, including events, pitches and proposals, contact relationship management, branding, business/relationship intelligence, and internal communications

You will report to the Investment Funds BD Manger in New York and will work closely with two other local team members. The assistant will also communicate and collaborate daily with the more than 100 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader BD, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. Our international marketing team provides seamless service to our attorneys, with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with event planning and execution of seminars and receptions, industry conference and charitable sponsorships, speaking engagements, client entertainment and other events related to the promotion of the investment funds group.
  • Assist in the production of marketing collateral and pitch materials, responses to RFPs and client presentations, including proofreading, formatting (must have exceptional PowerPoint skills), editing, printing, binding and delivery.
  • Manage information in the Firm’s contact relationship management (CRM) system, including the review and creation of mailing lists used for direct mail campaigns.
  • Conduct research and prepare intelligence reports on clients, potential clients, competitors and target industries.
  • Help with survey responses and award submissions as needed.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Provide administrative assistance, including budgeting and reporting, as needed to the Investment Funds BD Manager, NY Office and BD department.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

Strong organization and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with high-level attorneys, staff and guests of the Firm are a must -- even at a junior level. You should be able to work independently while making intelligent, informed decisions. We are looking for a true achiever with a drive to succeed. Kirkland demands quality work from every employee (often in high-pressure and deadline-driven scenarios) and a history of taking initiative is essential to success.

The position demands meticulous data entry, writing and proofing skills, and you need to possess a general facility for learning new software. A Bachelor’s degree is required. Familiarity with the pitch process, a basic understanding of Kirkland’s legal disciplines and/or private equity sector experience would be helpful.

Technologies/Software

  • MS Office software proficiency, with expertise in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel are required.
  • CRM/Database Software (e.g., InterAction, Salesforce, ContentPilot, etc.) experience are preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Chrome River, InterAction, Adobe Photoshop and other programs is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
  • Overtime work may be needed.
