Essential Job Functions

The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for preparing financial reports and analyses, including the Firm’s financial statements, and summarizing key metrics/information from multiple sources.  This individual will have responsibility for the management of the Firm’s Chart of Accounts, and will have extensive involvement in the Budgeting and Forecasts processes.

  • Review and analyze various financial reports including headcount metrics, variance analyses, and comparisons to other benchmarking information. 
  • Prepare and review Firm draft financial statements; liaise with the Firm’s external auditors during the Firm, Kirkland & Ellis Foundation, Benefit Plan, and related entity audits.
  • Support for the Firm’s annual budget and forecast processes.
  • Manage the Firm’s Chart of Accounts, including review of accounts and internal processes for optimization; develop/update procedures as required.
  • Coordinate with teams within the Finance Department as well as Functional Area and Office Leaders to ensure appropriate use of Chart of Accounts as well as accurate GL coding.
  • Supervise and train less experienced team members in development of accounting and analysis skills.
  • Work with the Firm’s Tax Department and international Finance team on reconciling local statutory financial statements.
  • Review monthly account reconciliations; analyze and correct discrepancies.
  • Participate in complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the Finance team as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, in addition to their CPA certification.
  • At least four years of Public Accounting experience with a Big 4 or National Accounting Firm is required; prior Audit experience for a Law Firm or Professional Services Firm is a plus.   
  • Candidate should be proactive, results oriented and possess written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely summarize conclusions and observations to various members of the Firm and Finance leadership.
  • This individual should be collaborative and have the ability to communicate with openness and transparency with personnel at all levels.
  • The ability to be a team leader that can lead the team to be productive and work well together is critical.
  • Excellent organizational skills as well as the ability to develop creative solutions/alternatives to issues/questions are critical. This individual must have the ability and willingness to assess procedures and proactively recommend improvements to existing processes.
