Essential Job Functions

Kirkland & Ellis is seeking a coordinator to support the marketing/business development efforts of the Firmwide transactional practices (M&A/Private Equity, Debt Finance and Capital Markets, among others) in our Chicago office.

You will serve as a valuable resource to the transactional BD team and be responsible for the research, collection, entry and maintenance of historical and current transactional experience, beginning with M&A/Private Equity, for inclusion in the our experience database. You will also play a key role in drafting database training and reference materials. In essence, you will be shaping our experience tracking as it evolves.

This role has a strong focus on the research and analysis of press releases, news items, deal documents and information from a variety internal and external market intelligence platforms. You will need to be comfortable in an internal database environment, understand the elements of an M&A transaction, be able to distinguish among various types of transactions, and have the ability to convey complex information effectively.

You will report to the Transactional Business Development (BD) Director and the Practice Intelligence Associate Director in the Chicago office, and will work closely with other transactional team members, including the Transactional BD Director in New York. You will also communicate and collaborate daily with the nearly 100 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader business development, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. Our international BD team provides seamless service to our attorneys, with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness.


  • Engage in thoughtful, comprehensive research of the Firm’s transactions across a wide breadth of industries, geographies and transaction types using a variety of  internal and external resources, including Bloomberg, The Deal Pipeline, CapIQ, Pitchbook, Deal Point Data, PrivateRaise, Preqin, ThomsonOne, Corporate Affiliations and others
  • Accurately capture and maintain comprehensive transaction deals in the Firm’s experience database
  • Collaborate with other members of the practice intelligence team to refine and improve the existing database
  • Create manuals and resource materials for the experience database, outlining best practices for researching and recording transactions as well as helping to develop definitions and taxonomies with an eye toward consistency of content
  • Provide research, coordination and other logistical assistance in connection with the origination and execution of new business pitches and related client development meetings and activities
  • Refine and curate core materials related to specific industries, practice descriptions and representative experience


  • Creating and maintaining marketing materials for new business pitches and client presentations

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

Strong organization and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with high-level attorneys, staff and guests of the Firm are a must -- even at a junior level. You should be able to work independently while making intelligent, informed decisions. Kirkland demands quality work from every employee (often in high-pressure and deadline-driven scenarios) so you need to be able to multi-task and prioritize effectively. A history of taking initiative is essential to success in this position. We are looking for a true achiever with a drive to succeed.

The position demands meticulous data entry, writing and proofing skills, and you need to possess a general facility for learning new software. An understanding of complex M&A and finance transactions is required. A Bachelor’s degree is required. professional experience and a background in M&A/private equity are preferred and law firm, corporate finance, research analyst and investment banking experience are a plus.

  • Market intelligence platforms, including BoardEx, Rel Sci, Capital IQ, ThomsonOne, Preqin, Manzama, The Deal Pipeline, Pitchbook and Corporate Affiliations
