Essential Job Functions

  • Perform cold reads (i.e., proofread for typos/grammar, consistency of format)
  • Must be familiar with legal terminology (e.g., case cites, etc.)
  • Familiarity with manual redlining of documents
  • Proofread financial tables for accuracy
  • Familiarity with current Bluebook formatting guidelines
  • Must be able to adapt to the Firm’s Best Practices
  • Must be independent, yet able to contribute as a team player
  • Ability to follow specific guidelines and/or instructions
  • Attention to detail with the ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Available to work overtime, as needed

Qualifications & Requirements

The New York office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP is seeking a Legal Proofreader. The qualified candidate will have 5+ years of experience as a proofreader in a legal or financial services organization. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office is required. The successful candidate will have an excellent work ethic and strong teamwork skills in a high volume, minimally staffed environment. Must be flexible, organized, and be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines with a calm, pleasant demeanor. Must be able to work with minimal supervision and make independent, well-thought-out decisions. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and interact professionally with attorneys, staff and clients. A college degree is preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.

The shift for this position is Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 11:30 pm - 9:30 am and Thursday 11:30 pm - 8:30 am.
