Essential Job Functions


Kirkland & Ellis is seeking an energetic, organized Assistant to join the Texas Business Development (BD) department in Houston. This position reports to the BD Associate Director in Houston and will work closely with two other local BD team members.

The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail. The ability to be flexible, multitask, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment is a must. The candidate will also communicate and collaborate daily with the more than 100 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader BD, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. Our international marketing team provides seamless service to our attorneys, with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness. In short, we are looking for a self-starter, with good judgement and an interest in a professional services career.


  • Assist in overseeing strategy for events, such as client-facing Firm-hosted events, industry conference and charitable sponsorships, speaking engagements, client entertainment and other event activities related to the promotion of the Texas and energy practices.  The candidate will assist with the program design and all aspects of the execution, including attendance tracking and follow-up.
  • Provide assistance with the development and accuracy of marketing collateral including practice descriptions, brochures, PowerPoint templates, deal summaries, accolade summaries and attorney biographies.
  • Assist with the execution of client-facing pitch materials, responses to RFPs and client presentations, including proofreading, formatting (must have exceptional PowerPoint skills), editing, printing, binding and delivery.
  • Update data in the Firm’s marketing contact relationship management (CRM) database, including the review and creation of mailing lists used for direct mail campaigns.
  • Conduct online and database research and prepare intelligence reports on clients, potential clients, competitors and industries of interest to the Texas and energy practices.
  • Assist with survey responses and award submissions.


  • Provide general assistance to the BD Associate Director relating to the initiatives of the Texas offices and BD department.
  • Provide administrative support, including expense reports, phone support, filing, etc.

Education, Work Experience, Skills

Strong organization and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with high-level attorneys, staff and guests of the Firm are a must -- even at a junior level. You should be able to work independently while making intelligent, informed decisions. Kirkland demands quality work from every employee (often in high-pressure and deadline-driven scenarios) so you need to be able to multi-task and prioritize effectively. A history of taking initiative is essential to success in this position. We are looking for a true achiever with a drive to succeed.

The position demands meticulous data entry, writing and proofing skills, and you need to possess a general facility for learning new software. A Bachelor’s degree is required. Familiarity with the pitch process, a basic understanding of Kirkland’s legal disciplines (e.g., transactional, litigation, IP, restructuring) and/or energy sector experience would be helpful.

  • Microsoft Office Suite, including SharePoint. PowerPoint and Excel experts are highly desired.
  • CRM/Database Software (e.g., InterAction, Salesforce, ContentPilot, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of Chrome River, InterAction, Adobe Photoshop and other programs is a plus.


  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
  • Overtime work may be needed.
