Essential Job Functions


The Legal Training and Development Coordinator is an integral member of our Legal Recruiting & Development (“LRD”) Department.  Reporting to the Firmwide Director of Legal Education & Development, this coordinator will be an office focused resource that actively supports training delivery locally for the Houston office, as well as for Firmwide training programming at Kirkland. 

The Legal Training and Development Coordinator will serve as a master scheduler, coordinator, and day of event support resource for all Houston and Firmwide specific training, programming, learning lunches, and forums.  Additionally, this coordinator will be a first first point of contact for Houston Attorneys and Legal Recruiting & Development leaders in all areas related to Houston training needs. 

The Legal Training and Development Coordinator is a highly visible role within the firm and responsible for a broad set of activities. The specific activities this Coordinator is charged with includes those below, but is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary to comply with Attorney learning needs and firm strategy.

Training/Development Responsibilities:

  • Organizing attorney training and development initiatives:
    • Focus on initiatives and programs related to the development, training, morale and retention of attorneys
    • Work with Attorney Recruiting Department to coordinate Summer Associate Program and New Associate Orientation
  • Scheduling and communicating all aspect of scheduling training programming
  • Administering surveys and evaluation for training programs
  • Partnering with  members of LRD and leadership where necessary to manage for the continuous improvement of Attorney Training and Development
  • Serving as training program and event support for all sessions as needed
  • Partnering with FW Resources on CLE compliance process to coordinate and align with CLE process as needed for attorney training programming
  • Participate in individual goal setting and annual review process
  • Coordinate attorney transfers and internal and external secondments
  • Assist with visa and immigration needs for foreign national attorneys
  • Track department budget and maintain close records of department spending
  • Mentor and delegate to department assistants
  • Act as contact for new associates’ bar admission including monitoring status, completing employment affidavits, processing and tracking bar-related expenses
  • Collaborate with administrative department staff
  • Update Attorney Development SharePoint sites as necessary
  • Additional projects or tasks that relate to Legal Recruiting, Training, & Development, as needed

  • Accurate and timely entry of departmental data into various databases
  • Maintaining files
  • Preparing check requests
  • Maintaining departmental calendars
  • Providing event support
  • General administrative duties including filing, copying, and document preparation
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • At least 2 years of experience within Learning and Development/Talent Management
  • Experience working for a law firm is preferred 
  • The ideal candidate will be highly organized, possess excellent proofing and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build relationships among lawyers and staff to achieve results; position requires a high level of collaboration with attorneys and staff and the ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required
