Essential Job Functions

The Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP is seeking a Firmwide Pro Bono Assistant.  This individual will primarily focus on our pro bono initiatives and will be a key member of our Firmwide Pro Bono team.   

The Pro Bono Assistant will work closely with the Firmwide Director of Pro Bono and the other members of the pro bono team.  Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with the coordination of internal and external events and trainings, reporting of regular and ad hoc pro bono metrics, assisting with the opening of new pro bono matters, monitoring of status of pro bono matters, and other pro bono projects as assigned.   

Pro Bono Duties (primary):

  • Assist with the coordination of internal and external pro bono events and trainings
  • Reporting of regular and ad hoc pro bono metrics;
  • Prepare responses to auditors, legal service providers, and non-profit clients on pro bono metrics;
  • Monitor first year and summer associate pro bono hours;
  • Format weekly pro bono opportunities emails for international offices;
  • Locating publicly available information on not-for-profit organizations;
  • Assist with office awards ceremonies;
  • Schedule Pro Bono Committee meetings and other meetings of the Director
  • Update and maintain email distribution lists;
  • Assist with opening pro bono matters; monitor inactive matters;
  • Maintain, sort, and file pro bono mail and hard copy documents;
  • Data entry;
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Firmwide Director of Pro Bono

Qualifications & Requirements

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail oriented, possess excellent proofreading and communication (oral and written) skills, have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, meet concrete deadlines, have a can-do attitude, be comfortable with Excel and use of internal and external databases, and be a solid team player.  The ability to perform analytical work with a high level of attention to detail and high standards for accuracy and quality are required.  Maintaining positive relationships, both internally and externally, while maintaining a client service orientation and using sound independent judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential information are also required.  Advanced familiarity with standard office technology applications such as Microsoft Office Suite is required, with particular emphasis on Microsoft Excel.  A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two (2) years of law firm or related experience in a professional environment are required.
