Essential Job Functions

The New York office is seeking a Learning Curriculum Manager to join our Firmwide Legal Recruiting and Development Department.  Reporting to the Firmwide Director of Legal Education & Development, this manager will be the first point of contact for our attorneys and knowledge management partners in the New York office, and as part of our global, Firmwide team. 

The Learning Curriculum Manager is a highly visible and influential role within the firm and responsible for a broad portfolio. This manager is charged with:

  • Providing strategic direction and implementation for attorney training and development initiatives
  • Creating, coordinating, deploying, and surveying attorney training and development programs
  • Evaluating and assessing all aspects of training programs and recommending future strategies
  • Managing and participating where needed across CLE trainings, KITA (Litigation Training), Kirkland University, and leadership training
  • Monitoring compliance with CLE requirements and oversight of CLE accreditation for in-house training programs
  • Tracking and/or overseeing the administration of attorney admissions and maintenance of admissions status
  • Primary oversight of new attorney orientation and integration
  • Directly and indirectly leading a team responsible for curriculum design, coordination organization and maintenance
  • Motivating high-level of collaboration with attorneys, knowledge management, and staff
  • Working independently across a highly dynamic, growing firm

This critical leader will partner with our talent functions, knowledge management, and our legal practicing teams to help Learning and Development reimagine our global learning and development function.A Bachelor’s degree is required.Law firm and/or experience is a plus.

A successful candidate will have experience with the areas below.

  • Instructional design and development approaches aimed at delivering engaging learning experiences, including but not limited to: digital learning (web-based training, video based learning, MOOCS, learning apps, digital simulations, podcasts, etc.), virtual classroom learning, instructor led classroom learning (simulations, facilitated learning) workplace learning, coaching, and blended solution development
  • Analyzing and evaluating existing programs for impact and alignment with firm needs, providing recommendations for learning experiences that increase reach, impact, and future capability requirements
  • Survey definition and development that considers audience needs for continuous improvement
  • Learning measurement that aligns to business strategy
  • Working with, identifying, developing, leading and managing key external vendor relationships as necessary
  • Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems, learning tools, processes, and procedures
  • Building and fostering working relationships with business partners across a global firm/organization

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferred Master’s Degree in Human Resources or related discipline
  • Minimum ten years of progressive experience in learning & development functions including in-person training, virtual training and facilitation roles
  • Senior level expertise across a variety of instructional methods and training techniques including curriculum design principles, adult learning theory, and blended learning strategies
  • Excellent ability to engage with people at all levels of an organization
  • Clear communicator through a variety of both written and oral delivery methods
  • Ability to coach, mentor and manage teams (directly and indirectly)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Solid influencing, negotiation and facilitation skills with the ability to foster and maintain collaborative relationships.
  • Strong project management skills and business acumen
