Essential Job Functions

Kirkland & Ellis is seeking an assistant to support the Practice Intelligence efforts of the Firm, as part of the broader Marketing & Business Development (BD) function. Practice Intelligence is a subset of the Business Intelligence Group, focusing on the collection and curation of the Firm’s case and deal experience.

You will report directly to the Associate Director of Practice Intelligence with additional oversight by the Director of Business Intelligence. In this role, you will also communicate and collaborate daily with nearly 100 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader business development, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. Our international BD team provides seamless service to our attorneys with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness.

You will be responsible for the research, collection, and maintenance of case and deal data for inclusion in the BD Experience Database. This position has a strong focus on legal research and providing business intelligence research services to the Firm's attorneys. An emphasis on researching and analyzing case and deal documents and other information from various databases, Internet, and other research systems is essential.

  • Assist in the overall research, collection, and maintenance of all case and deal data.
  • Assist with in-depth company and industry research relevant to the Experience Database.

An Ideal candidate must possess outstanding analytical skills (ability to develop and produce meaningful reports from multiple streams of data) and be able to simply (and concisely) convey complex information. You should have a general understanding of the core legal practice areas of the Firm, including knowledge of the various types of litigation cases and transactional deals.

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • Strong organization and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with high-level attorneys, staff and guests of the Firm are a must.
  • You should be able to work independently while making intelligent, informed decisions. Kirkland demands quality work from every employee (often in high-pressure and deadline-driven scenarios) so you need to be able to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
  • You must have strong project management skills, exceptional business acumen, and a strong ability to identify and understand marketplace trends.
  • You will be required to handle ambiguity, influence others and find ways to move initiatives forward to meet critical deadlines and produce results.
  • The position demands meticulous writing and proofing skills, and you need to possess a general facility for learning new software.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is required and an ideal candidate will have one to two years’ experience in the law firm environment.

  • Database experience is preferred.
  • Strong skills in MS Office software with expertise in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word are required. Experience with Adobe and SharePoint are preferred.
