Essential Job Functions

A Trust and Estate Paralegal I, under the supervision and direction of Attorneys, helps to manage, produce, and organize the materials and information relating to the practice group, as needed.  Projects typically involve drafting basic documents, clerical duties, and basic file organization tasks.

  • Provide legal and administrative support to attorneys.
  • Perform clerical tasks as needed, e.g., proofread, assemble materials for binders, prepare packages, assist with project management, write cover memos and execution instructions.
  • Monitor deadlines of key dates and work with Calendar Court Services to provide email reminders of upcoming deadlines.
  • Preparation of flowcharts and summaries of estate plans.
  • Preparation of valuations of assets.
  • Preparation of Insurance transfer and claim forms.
  • Preparation of beneficiary designation, transfer and claim forms.
  • Preparation of health care proxies and powers of attorney.

Technologies/Software

  • Strong technical skills are required, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and a form of Document Management System.

Certificates, Licensures, Registrations

  • Paralegal certificate is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • The ideal candidate will possess 2+ years of experience related to Trust and Estates. A bachelor’s degree is required.  Excellent communication skills are necessary with the ability to interact professionally with staff, attorneys, paralegals, clients, and vendors. The successful candidate must be able to work independently as well as with a team, have an acute attention to detail and be able to multi-task and prioritize.

Compensation: 

The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. This range may differ based on your experience and skill set, geographic location, and cost of living considerations. At Kirkland & Ellis, we consider compensation more than just a base salary. We also offer an exceptional range of flexible benefits, personal support and tailored learning and development opportunities all designed to help you realize your full potential both in life and at work.

  • New York City - $69,000 -$115,000
