Essential Job Functions

We are looking for a versatile junior editor and copywriter to join our content team as a Marketing Communications Assistant. The role requires you to bring outstanding organizational, writing, editing and grammar skills to your work on a portfolio of marketing communications and content campaigns. Intellectual curiosity and the ability to distill complex topics into concise, easy-to-read language will be important, as will be an interest in new technologies and exploring creative ways of communicating.

As a Marketing Communications Assistant at one of the world’s leading law firms, you will support a broad range of content and communications initiatives directed by members of the Marketing Communications, Digital Marketing and Branding & Creative teams. You will report to the Marketing Communications Associate Director in New York and collaborate regularly with a tight-knit content team and approximately 170 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader communications, marketing and business development efforts of the Firm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  • Assist with the production of the Firm’s weekly internal newsletter, including drafting and editing content, working with attorneys and Firm leadership to secure approvals, formatting text using templates and contributing to various project management and administrative tasks.
  • Assist with production of client newsletters, working with SiteCore (website content editor), our customer relationship management (CRM) software and e-marketing communication software to produce attorney-authored thought leadership. Tasks will include editing, proofreading, working with mailing lists in the CRM, creating e-marketing campaigns, interacting with Firm leadership to obtain approvals and maintaining procedure checklists.
  • Assist on content marketing efforts that support the Firm’s social commitments (diversity, pro bono, wellbeing, philanthropy), employer branding efforts and more.
  • Assist with social media content related to Firm thought leadership, including drafting and editing language and using templates to create image headers for various social media channels using the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Assist with other client-facing and internal marketing communications initiatives, including drafting or editing creative copy, talking points, video scripts and other content.
  • Explore and learn about new technology to create and edit content, develop videos and other dynamic content.
  • Assist other functional Business Development teams, including Digital Marketing, Branding & Creative, and Operations with projects as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

Required:

  • Strong writing skills and a solid command of the Associated Press style guide, grammar and journalistic writing principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and impeccable attention to detail, particularly as it relates to proofing.
  • Ability to write content of varying lengths and tones, including website articles, email copy and social media copy.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and execute a diverse range of tasks with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and meet competing deadlines and to follow clearly defined processes and procedures.
  • A professional demeanor and a client service mindset, with a sense of urgency in answering requests from attorneys and administrative staff.
  • Flexibility and ability to tolerate ambiguity in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills necessary to maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Collaborative approach to working within a team, including the ability to take direction and implement feedback.
  • Solid command of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be willing to learn new technologies with appropriate supports as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism or public relations with one to three years of experience in communications, content and/or marketing roles.

Preferred:

  • Experience with website content management software, html-based e-mail marketing platforms, desktop publishing software including the Adobe Creative Suite, and CRM systems
  • Law firm or professional services experience

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
  • This role offers a hybrid workplace model, and you will be expected to be present in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week.

Compensation: 

 The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. This range may differ based on your experience and skill set, geographic location, and cost of living considerations. At Kirkland & Ellis, we consider compensation more than just a base salary. We also offer an exceptional range of flexible benefits, personal support and tailored learning and development opportunities all designed to help you realize your full potential both in life and at work.

  • New York City - $60,000 -$77,000
