Essential Job Functions

We are seeking a Communications Manager to support internal Firmwide communications, programs and engagement. Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Manager will be responsible for supporting communications initiatives that contribute to Kirkland’s values and enhance the employee experience. Managing and launching our global digital signage initiative will be a main focus of this role.

We are looking for a savvy, creative and thoughtful communicator accustomed to supporting communications in a matrixed environment. This individual must be passionate about writing, editing and creating communications plans that track against business goals and opportunities.

The role will contribute to internal initiatives as part of a team with a hands-on, get-it-done ethos. The Manager will contribute to communications that inform, equip and engage attorneys and staff, collaborating with colleagues across the Firm to drive results. Strong project management skills, attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  • Oversee the Firm’s digital signage initiative, taking charge of project leadership and implementation across the organization. Responsibilities include coordinating content with our design team, managing an editorial calendar, managing the platform and vendor relations, and providing training to new users.
  • Draft, edit and format internal emails, newsletters, one-pagers, invitations, presentations, and other communication materials.
  • Serve as a communications business partner for various internal departments; edit emails, support new projects, develop comprehensive communications plans and campaigns, and optimize messaging for enhanced efficiency.
  • Effectively analyze stakeholder requests using problem-solving skills, exercising good judgment, and distilling complex topics into concise, easily understandable language tailored to the audience.
  • Partner with various internal departments to find opportunities to collaborate and tell stories.
  • Work with our Branding & Creative team to ensure consistency of Firm tone and branding.
  • Contribute to and support other initiatives as needed to assist the team.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a specialization in communications, journalism, HR or an equivalent field. Law firm or professional services experience is a plus.
  • We are seeking a candidate with at least 8 years in a hand-on communications role.
  • Strong writing skills and a solid command of the Associated Press style guide, grammar and journalistic writing principles is required.
  • Experience with content writing, creation and management is required.
  • Professional, punctual, and dependable - understands the importance of this role; takes ownership and pride in administrative responsibilities.
  • The ideal candidate must be able to effectively analyze situations using problem-solving skills and has strong ability to exercise good judgement.
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be nimble and allow for flexibility when working across teams.
  • Ability to connect the dots, leverage resources around you and be creative.
  • Ability to decipher proper tone and approach used in materials for different audiences.
