Essential Job Functions

POSITION OVERVIEW

A two-year position supporting paralegals and attorneys in the Investment Funds Group. This position is an opportunity for individuals interested in law school to gain prior legal experience.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

A Junior Paralegal, under the supervision and direction of a Paralegal and/or Attorney, helps to manage and organize the materials and information relating to particular matters and transactions. These duties allow them the opportunity to work with and assist our legal staff in preparing for due diligence investigations, document productions and closings. A Junior Paralegal assists attorneys and legal staff with overall legal and administrative support duties, such as:

  • Keep track of all relevant documents and signature pages for the Attorneys and/or Paralegals
  • Proofread, duplicate, and scan documents to PDF, format and save to document management system
  • Conduct research on Westlaw, Live Edgar, and other databases.
  • Collaborates with various practice groups providing support, as needed.
  • ​​Provides direct support to clients (using discretion to handle matters directly or involving an attorney)
  • Handles distribution of original documents
  • Perform clerical tasks as needed, e.g. make copies, create folder labels, prepare packages, write generic cover memos, etc.
  • Commitment to work overtime as needed, which may be heavy at times, and may include weekends or holidays with potential to be for extended periods of time. Must be available to travel.

INVESTMENT FUNDS - Junior Paralegals assist legal staff and attorneys with communications and collaborative support including but not limited to the following:

  • Prepares and files (or coordinates the filing of) formation, tax and securities documents
  • Reviews investor subscription materials for completeness, correctness and consistency
  • Subscription Booklet Tracking and Indexing
  • Reviews investor subscription booklets and indexes into Access database and identifies follow up
  • Prepares and maintains various spreadsheets and reports
  • Maintains hard and soft copies of subscription booklets and other related materials

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

The ideal Junior Paralegal candidate is a college graduate with a strong interest in the legal profession and corporate law with the ability to commit to the position for at least two years.  Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary with the ability to interact professionally with staff, attorneys, legal assistants, clients and vendors.  The successful candidate must be able to work independently as well as with a team, have an acute attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and prioritize while working in a high pressure, deadline-driven environment.  Strong technical skills are required, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and a Document Management System; knowledge of Carpe Diem and Westlaw, Relativity, Compulaw, and Sharepoint is a plus.  Overtime availability is a must and a college degree is required.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates on a hybrid schedule.  This role routinely uses standard equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.
