Essential Job Functions

We are seeking a Legal Education and Development Coordinator to support local training programs, training compliance, and Firmwide programs in our Los Angeles offices.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized and possess excellent oral and written skills; the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment; a very strong attention to detail; and a professional demeanor.  Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships. This position requires a high level of collaboration with attorneys and staff and the ability to work independently. This position requires the exercise of independent judgment.

This position is hybrid.  The individual is expected to follow the Firm’s hybrid work model, which requires in-person presence Tuesday-Thursday (with the exception of pre-approved arrangements).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  • Support the Firm’s management of California CLE compliance procedures and protocol for California licensed/local attorneys
    • Validate California CLE program data and information
    • Track attendance for in-house programs and prepare participation reports
    • Participate in CLE compliance and audit procedures
    • Oversee and maintain the firm’s MCLE provider status with the CA Bar
    • Organize and distribute onboarding and departure packets for Kirkland attorneys
    • Coordinate the CLE and Legal Education processes for the Los Angeles office and provide support to the Firm’s other West Coast Offices (Bay Area and Salt Lake City)
    • Track Calbar annual CLE and New Attorney Training Program compliance requirements for the Firm’s California-licensed attorneys and send communications to ensure compliance
  • Assist with the coordination and support of annual attorney programs, both local and firmwide (where needed), such as Kirkland University, Summer Associate programming, New Associate Onboarding, and other programming as assigned
    • Communicate and collaborate on scheduling, handouts, logistical and technical details
    • Support delivery excellence for Los Angeles summer associate training programming through collaboration with our West Coast offices, Recruiting, and Legal Education and Development teams
  • Attend Legal Education and Development departmental staff meetings
  • Assist local Legal Recruiting and Development team members to support Los Angeles attorneys and office needs
  • Attend local training programs in person to monitor and ensure top-notch delivery of programs
  • Assist with other administrative duties such as creating surveys, reports, organizing, and supporting local development, pro bono and diversity projects as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Prepare, support, and distribute department materials
  • Assist in meeting support
  • Execute accurate and timely entry of departmental data into various databases
  • Maintain files
  • Prepare check requests and expense reports
  • Maintain departmental calendars
  • Provide event, travel, and general logistical support
  • General administrative duties including filing, copying, and document preparation
  • Willingness to grow and develop a skillset in Professional Learning and Development methodology
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree with two-plus years of work experience
  • Experience working for a law firm is preferred
  • Experience or exposure to working with Learning and Development functions
  • Experience working in a professional service firm is desirable
  • The ideal candidate will be highly organized, possess excellent proofing and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Very strong attention to detail
  • Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build relationships among lawyers and staff to achieve results; position requires a high level of collaboration with attorneys and staff and the ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases preferred
