Essential Job Functions

The high-growth Firmwide Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) team is looking to add a Specialist with a heavy focus on data analytics and reporting.  The Specialist will assist in identifying data integrity issues and ensure proper governance is implemented to prevent reoccurrence.  This individual serves as a technical point-of-contact and assists subject matter experts with ensuring the trustworthiness of information over its life-cycle, and analyzing data flows for process improvement opportunities.

The Specialist will be responsible for creating complex reports using PeopleSoft, Tableau and other systems as needed.  This individual will synthesize DEI data in order for the team to identify trends and enable Firm Management to make strategic business decisions.  

The Specialist will foster productive working relationships with business partners, accurately resolve complex, time-sensitive requests, and provide first-class service and support to the group and Firm Management.  

Essential Functions: (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  • Manage internal data analyses surrounding diverse attorney groups at Kirkland relative to the broader attorney population and create relevant, user-friendly reports assessing key metrics including but not limited to:
    • General Demographics by Attorney Level and Office
    • Practice Group Demographics
    • Attrition
    • Promotion
    • Recruiting
    • Committee Leadership
    • Client Pitches
    • Client Matter Staffing
    • Workflow
  • Spearhead external data submissions produced by the Kirkland DEI team (e.g., individual client requests, ABA Model Diversity Survey, HRC, Vault/MCCA, Working Mother and Yale Law Women)
  • Confirm/corroborate data submissions from other Kirkland departments producing DEI reports on behalf of the Firm as part of broader submissions (e.g., Business Development media surveys and client RFP’s)
  • Synthesize external trends and benchmarks for above areas among peer firms and other large law firms (e.g., actively mine peer firm websites and Vault/MCCA, NALP and other external databases)
  • Analyze Working Mother, AmLaw A-List and AmLaw Diversity Scorecard award results and other benchmarking reports to identify relative strengths and areas of opportunity for the Firm
  • Identify and promote technology and process improvements to ensure data integrity, efficiency and reduce duplication of DEI metrics produced across the Firm
  • Develop innovative ways to summarize and promote Kirkland’s DEI programming for various constituencies at Kirkland
  • Respond to other data requests generated by Kirkland clients, the DEI Task Force, the DEI Committee, DEI Subcommittees, and/or the Director of Firmwide DEI
  • Function as an influential member of the Kirkland DEI team and contribute to various programmatic efforts as needed
  • Any other functions/duties as assigned by management

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills:

A Bachelor’s degree and six-plus years of experience in HR, marketing or a related field is required. Experience in a law firm or professional services environment is strongly preferred.   Proficiency with MS Office Suite products with advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills is required.  Proficiency with data models (including Tableau), table layouts and design concepts using SQL (Structured Query Language) for reporting and data analysis is strongly preferred.  Experience with report building tools like MS Reporting Services is also preferred.  Exceptional analytical skills and the ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines are required.  The Specialist must have excellent judgment, problem-solving, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as a strong work ethic and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and build positive working relationships. In addition, candidates must be self-motivated, organized, and able to effectively prioritize competing demands on time and attention. 

The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies:

  • Comprehensive understanding of Microsoft Office Suite products, with advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Ability to effectively synthesize large amounts of data from varying sources into relevant reports and summaries
  • Ability to communicate with various administrative departments and to drive discussions to a successful conclusion/outcome
  • Strong judgment, problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to present data in a logical, concise manner
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a high-pressure environment
  • High professional standards for customer service, confidentiality, teamwork, and quality of work

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
