Essential Job Functions

The Compliance Analyst is responsible for performing the continuous expense monitoring process within the Finance department.  This involves the review of transactional financial data (e.g., expense reports, procurement card reports, vendor invoices, etc.) by using analysis and investigation to identify potential expense policy violations, inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.  The Analyst will summarize findings and results into reports and presentations for review by Finance and Firm leadership. This individual will work with the Accounts Payable and Financial Accounting, Budget, and Reporting teams.

Essential Functions:  (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  • Perform routine reviews of expense report, procurement card and vendor invoice data and supporting documentation to determine compliance with Firm policies and procedures.
  • Set up data models and dashboard with existing Firm technology to detect exceptions and red flags.
  • Recognize patterns, trends, or behaviors potentially requiring further diligence and investigation.
  • Develop standard monthly reporting for leadership to summarize findings and emerging areas of risk.
  • Based on findings, make recommendations leading to increasing adherence to expense and compliance policies; develop proposals for improvement of internal controls, processes and possible update of policies.
  • Involvement in other complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the Finance team as needed.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of Firm policies and procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • The Compliance Analyst will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business as well as two to four years of relevant work experience. Prior tenure in public accounting, an internal audit position or at a law firm or other professional services company is a plus.
  • This individual should be proactive, results oriented, and possess written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely summarize conclusions and observations. Attention to detail and the eagerness to learn and to progress within a dynamic and growing environment are imperative.
  • The candidate must be able to work through ambiguity and push to deliver continual impact. Individuals are expected to exhibit strong customer service skills and a commitment to excellence. The individual should be an ambitious self-starter who is curious and resourceful while focusing on creating positive impact and lasting change.
  • The individual must exhibit strong, relevant experience with reporting and analytics including supporting visuals that cater to all levels within the organization. A successful candidate will have the ability to distill large amounts of data and information down to its most valuable insights, and then communicate and present those insights to senior leadership and functional area stakeholders.

Technologies/Software:

  • MS Office with emphasis on advanced Excel skills is required
  • Tableau or other data analytics software experience preferred
  • Chrome River, AppZen or Elite 3E experience is helpful
