Essential Job Functions

A Trust and Estate Paralegal I, under the supervision and direction of Fiduciary Advisor and Attorneys, helps to manage and organize the materials and information relating to the practice group, as needed.  Projects typically involve clerical duties and basic file organization tasks, and at times will require long hours as needed by project demands.

Essential Functions: (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  • Provide legal and administrative support to advisors and attorneys
  • Perform clerical tasks as needed, e.g. make copies, proof read, scan documents to PDF and save to DMS, create folder labels, assemble materials for binders, prepare packages, write cover memos
  • Monitor deadlines of key dates and work with Calendar Court Services to provide email reminders of upcoming deadlines
  • Preparation of flowcharts and summaries of estate plans
  • Preparation of valuations of assets
  • Preparation of Insurance transfer and claim forms
  • Preparation of beneficiary designation, transfer and claim forms
  • Preparation of health care proxies and powers of attorney

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills:

  • The ideal candidate will possess 2+ years of experience related to Trust and Estates.  A Bachelor's degree is required.  Excellent communication skills are necessary with the ability to interact professionally with staff, attorneys, paralegals, clients and vendors.  The successful candidate must be able to work independently as well as with a team, have an acute attention to detail and be able to multi-task and prioritize while working in a high pressure, deadline-driven environment. 

Technologies/Software:

  • Strong technical skills are required, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and a form of Document Management System.

Certificates, Licensures, Registrations:

  • Paralegal certificate is preferred.

Work Environment: 

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
