Essential Job Functions

The Data Analysis & Insight Group group, which sits within the larger Business Development group at Kirkland, is one of the fastest growing areas in the Firm. The group’s purpose is to contribute to bringing in new business by using data mining and analysis to identify insights and opportunities. Pairing this information with insight and recommendations, the team equips partners with vital knowledge that helps drive new business initiatives forward at Kirkland.

The Data Analytics & Visualization Assistant will be an important part of the the Data Analysis & Insight Group and will help create dashboards and other visualizations from various data sources used by the Firm. In this role, you will help the Business Development group, Firm partners and other Firm departments by collaborating on long-term dashboard initiatives. You will be instrumental to this expanding team to meet the growing data visualization needs of the Firm.

You will report to the Director of Data Analysis & Insight in Chicago and work closely with seven other local team members. You will also communicate and collaborate regularly with a global team of approximately 140 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader BD, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. Kirkland’s international BD team provides seamless service to our attorneys with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  • Assist the Data Analytics & Visualization Specialist in day-to-day tasks.
  • Collaborate to design dashboards and maintain visualization documents
  • Help with data modeling, data extraction, loads, and transformation
  • Perform data research and entry
  • Maintain administrative documentation for projects
  • Adapt to changing technology by growing skills to meet the various needs of the Firm

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Ability to problem solve and demonstrate ideas clearly through oral and written communication
  • Basic understanding of database management
  • Willingness to learn how to translate often complicated requests into stories using data


  • One to two years’ experience in a law firm or professional services environment.



  • Advanced Excel knowledge
  • Advanced PowerPoint knowledge


  • Data Visualization experience in QlikSense, PowerBI or Tableau
  • SQL knowledge


  • Any other functions/duties as assigned by management.


  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
  • This role offers a hybrid work arrangement.
