Essential Job Functions
Kirkland & Ellis is seeking an organized assistant to support the marketing and business development efforts of the Firm’s Transactional Practice as part of the Business Development (BD) Department in the Chicago office. Kirkland's transactional attorneys represent some of the world’s most sophisticated public and private companies, as well as private equity sponsors, on their most complex, high-profile business transactions.
You will liaise closely with the lawyers and handle a variety of functions, including data management, business pitches and client presentations, business/relationship intelligence and internal communications. You should be comfortable in an internal database as well as working in a team environment, with a keen eye for organization and detail. Understanding the elements of an M&A transaction is an advantage, but more importantly you will need to be able to think critically, analyze data effectively and convey complex information clearly.
While each week is unique in its demands, here is a sampling of tasks you may be asked to handle: review news alerts from BusinessWire, Law360 and Mergermarket to compile a list of the Firm’s M&A transactions for the week, assist in putting together a list of the Firm’s healthcare experience for a client pitch, turn edits in pitch materials following attorney feedback and update attorney bios with recent transactions.
You will report to the Transactional Business Development Manager with oversight from the Transactional Business Development Director, both based in Chicago. You will also collaborate regularly with a global team of approximately 140 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader marketing, business development and communications efforts of the Firm. Our international BD team provides seamless service to our attorneys with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness. In short, we are looking for a self-starter, with good judgement and an interest in a professional services career.
