Essential Job Functions

We are seeking a public relations assistant within the communications group of the Firm’s Marketing and Business Development Department.

As an assistant at one of the world’s leading law firms, you will contribute to a broad range of global PR and communications activities and assist with programs that communicate Kirkland’s unique culture and differentiated services, enhance the Firm’s reputation and support its core practice areas.

You’ll be part of a tight-knit PR team with a hands on, get-it-done ethos, and you’ll collaborate regularly with over 140 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader business development, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. The assistant will bring outstanding writing, editing and grammar skills to their work. Intellectual curiosity and the ability to distill complex topics into concise, easy-to-read language will be important, as will be interest in exploring creative ways of communicating and new technologies.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to multi-task and work independently, a professional demeanor, a solid command of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, knowledge of AP style, exceptional organizational and project management skills, an attention to detail and a client service mindset. Prior experience working with various forms of media, including print, electronic and social media is preferred. Experience with media and research database tools is also preferred. Knowledge about the legal industry is a plus.  

Essential Functions

  • Assist in planning and execution of initiatives that raise the visibility of the Firm and its lawyers.
  • Draft and edit content for press releases, the Kirkland website and internal communications.
  • Assist with posting deal announcements, press releases and other updates to the website.
  • Track, analyze and report on media coverage involving the Firm and its lawyers.
  • Distribute media clippings to attorneys and staff via email and electronic newsletters.
  • Conduct research on media outlets, journalists, practice groups, industries, trends and competitors; and build and maintain detailed analysis reports and media lists related to that research.
  • Assist with nominations to awards and legal directory publishers.
  • Assist with or support other communications initiatives, including but not limited to production of client alerts, newsletters, responses to requests for proposals, and website content as needed.
  • Contribute to the Firm’s social media efforts.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism or public relations
  • One to three years of experience in a communications field.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills and a professional demeanor
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills necessary to maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficient with technology applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Word and Excel; Exposure to media monitoring tools, media databases, social media tools and website content management systems a plus
  • The ability to work with and report to staff in various offices across multiple time zones
  • Possessing an attention to detail and a desire to work with complex information and learn new terms and concepts

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a professional office environment.
  • Kirkland offers a hybrid workplace model, with employees expected to be present in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week.
