Essential Job Functions

The Benefits Analyst will work in conjunction with the Benefits Supervisor and Firmwide Director of Benefits to support the efficient administration of the Firm’s benefit plans and programs, with an emphasis on retirement benefits. The Benefits Analyst will develop a deep understanding of Kirkland’s qualified and non-qualified retirement plans in order to support accurate and efficient plan administration and provide exceptional service to participants. Duties include, but are not limited to, applying the Firm’s retirement benefit plan rules producing specialized reports and analyses; performing benefit calculations; supporting the development, refinement, and implementation of departmental process controls; responding to participant inquiries; and developing and executing test plans related to maintaining the retirement benefits system. The Benefits Analyst will have an active role in various department projects and initiatives, including those related to the the Firm’s health benefits.

Essential Functions: (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  1. Benefits Administration
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Firm’s retirement plans and programs in order to ensure seamless service to Firm participants and support effective plan and program administration
  • Prepare detailed reports and analyses related to benefit plan administration
  • Review and maintain internal process documents, making updates and recommendations for change where appropriate
  • Drafting and developing concise and thorough participant communications
  1. Compliance
  • Analyze and audit retirement plan participant data, generate specialized reporting requests
  • Collaborate with internal IT resources in the development, implementation, and evaluation of retirement benefits system
  • Monitor regulatory developments in the retirement field and make recommendations regarding necessary policy or administration changes
  1. Customer Service
  • Collaborate with vendors to resolve complex participant issues
  • Develop strong working relationships both within and outside of the department
  • Provide exceptional, prompt service to attorneys and staff on all benefits related issues
  1. Project Management, Leadership, Mentoring
  • Support Benefits Department initiatives by leading projects in collaboration with internal and external resources
  • Confidently embrace new challenges and take initiative in identifying process improvements

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills:

The ideal candidate will have superior analytical skills (including strong working knowledge of advanced Excel functions), strong project management abilities, high personal standards for performance, and superior written and oral communication skills. The individual will also be detail-oriented, work effectively across all levels of an organization, and possess sound judgment. The ability and desire to think critically and anticipate problems before they arise, work in a fast-paced environment, and be part of a highly collaborative team is a must.  Top candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, as well as 5+ years of experience in either retirement plan administration, accounting, or auditing. Experience in a law or professional services firm is highly desirable.

  • Experience with PeopleSoft or other HRMS

Work Environment: 

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.  The ability to work successfully in an active environment with the presence of distractions is imperative.
