Essential Job Functions

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Human Resources (HR) Manager will provide both overall strategic HR leadership and hands on day-to-day support to the Firm’s Miami office. The HR Manager must have extensive experience in full employee lifecycle support - recruitment, onboarding, development and retention, employee relations, benefits administration and offboarding. They must have a track record of successful Human Resources leadership in a large to mid-size firm or professional services company. The HR Manager will also be responsible for the coordinating of all secretarial coverage situations, monitoring and approving work schedules, and recommending and managing secretarial groupings. The HR Manager works in concert with the Miami office as well as the Firmwide Human Resources function.

This position requires excellent business partnering, change management, and organizational development skills. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of practical and applicable organization processes and structures, combined with human resource expertise.The Human Resources Manager works within established policies and firmwide parameters to promote, deploy, and communicate standards of professional development, compensation parity and ensure compliance within the law.

This position will report directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer with a dotted line to the Senior Director of Administration in the Miami office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  • Cultivate strategic internal customer relationships, working across offices, departments, and staff levels to partner and influence.
  • Drive performance management, proactively manage problem areas and key issues.
  • Work closely with the office leadership and management to develop a regional recruiting/staffing strategy for key positions, delivering qualified candidates on time and in the most cost effective way.
  • Manage day-to-day employee relations: maintain knowledge of legal requirements and proactively ensure business practices are in compliance. Provide information, advice and direction to managers on HR related matters.
  • Partner with the Firmwide Benefits function to ensure a consistent firmwide approach to benefits, wellness and leave of absence administration, including delivery of benefits orientations, responding to benefits related inquiries, and deployment of local programming.
  • Onboard attorneys and staff, to include meeting with new joiners on their first day to provide a warm welcome and communication of firm information, policies and collection of paperwork.
  • Manage employee offboarding process, to include exit surveys and departure checkout.

Practice Assistant (Secretarial) Support

  • Provide day-to-day guidance to Practice Assistants (PA), including monitoring workflow and managing attorney to PA ratios and assignments.
  • Responsible for coordinating PA onboarding and training, approving work schedules, and coordinating overtime assignments and overflow work schedules.
  • Serve as point person for PAs to discuss individual concerns and receive counseling.
  • Assist Senior Director of Administration in PA annual performance review process.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree. PHR certification is preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus
  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten (10) years human resources experience including a minimum of five (5) years of employee management experience within a professional services environment.
  • Must possess deep knowledge of Federal and local employment laws.
  • Strong familiarity with employee relations, as well as knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting requirements and regulations affecting human resources.
  • Demonstrated strategic ability and analytical skill, with a proven ability to use analytics to drive decision making.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to inspire trust and confidence at all levels. Proven success working cross-functionally in an organization. Must have strong communication skills, both verbally and written word.
  • Demonstrated leadership talent, with the ability to motivate all levels of employees through excellent judgment, professional competence, credibility, flexibility, and personal integrity.

Technologies/Software

  • Proficiency with PeopleSoft v9.2 is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  •  This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
