Essential Job Functions

The Chicago office is seeking a Senior Specialist of Alumni Engagement. As part of the Firmwide Legal Recruiting and Development Department (“LRD”), this role will be responsible coordinating and supporting the day-to-day operations of the Firm’s world class and industry leading Alumni Engagement Program.

Under the strategic direction of the Senior Director of Legal Recruiting and Development, this role includes: events, communications, marketing, alumni website/platform (AlumniLink), reporting & metrics, and adhoc requests for alumni information. The ideal candidate will bring a unique blend of organizational skills, both marketing and talent experience, ability to communicate effectively at various levels, project & process management/leadership, and business analysis skills.

The Senior Specialist of Alumni Engagement will embrace and promote Kirkland’s dedication to remaining “Colleagues for Life” with attorneys at Kirkland, present and past, recognizing that the Kirkland Alumni Program is what connects our esteemed alumni and attorneys through the website, engaging networking events, and life-long career support. This role will work collaboratively and seamlessly with resources across the LRD team and other departments in areas such as Events Planning, Marketing & Communications, Human Resources, IT, and Business Development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  • Coordinate the Firm’s alumni relations efforts and assist with the alumni-related initiatives throughout the entire attorney lifecycle
  • Work closely with Senior Director and attorneys, other functional areas/team members in the Firm to enhance the Alumni Program strategy, policies, culture, budget, and roadmap
  • Improve consistency and delivery thorough operational processes, technology support, & reporting capabilities
  • Track, measure & analyze alumni program results. Provide data analytics, create and maintain tracking and reporting tools as necessary (such as spreadsheets, databases, and reports).
  • Develop program presentations and other reports
  • Work closely with LRD Resources specializing in Marketing & Communications, Events, Operations & Technology to assist with:
    • Executing program events
    • Providing updates to Firm Leaders/Partnership
    • Ensuring consistency of Alumni Engagement Program branding
    • Assisting with the creation of monthly alumni engagement content and imagery, and monthly alumni e-newsletter
    • Support the development of program collateral
    • Monitoring the alumni website (AlumniLink)
    • Monitoring the alumni data and requests for reports/information and gathering/editing of alumni data and contact information, working closely Alumni Team resources
    • Coordinating with the Kirkland CareerLink program for job placements and job board
    • Maintaining professional relationships with vendors and contractors

Qualifications & Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience alumni programs, preferably in a large professional services organization, law firm setting or corporate environment. Classic marketing and communications experience as well as experience with talent focused work (recruiting, development, career services, alumni engagement).

  • Outstanding client service orientation, strong interpersonal skills and excellent written/verbal communication skills. Effectively communicate at all levels and to cultivate collaborative relationships with other Firm departments and co-workers.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with strong skills in project management, creative problem-solving, coaching, and dealing with ambiguity is desired.
  • Operate well under time constraints and similar influences. 
  • Results-oriented with the ability to effectively prioritize and balance competing demands.
  • Switch from project lead to project assistant as roles of particular projects demand.
  • Ability to manage vendors who help support program efforts.

 

Overtime and travel may be required as necessary to complete the essential duties as outlined above.

  

Technologies/Software

  • Technical experience should include Microsoft Office Suite at minimum, with a proven track record of easily adapting to new software and technologies. 

  • Experience with alumni platforms/websites is key.  Experience with e-marketing, social medial, or data/analytics tools or platforms is a plus.
