Essential Job Functions

The Tax Analyst will support the Director of Taxes and the Tax Accounting Manager in the preparation and review of Firm’s tax returns and supporting schedules. Primary focus will be on Sales & Use taxation.  Secondary responsibilities include unsecured personal property tax filings, information reporting for U.S. and Non-U.S. payments, unclaimed property tax filings, and maintenance of the Firm’s tax related fixed asset books.  Responsibilities include accessing and reviewing tax accrual data and providing delivery of data to ensure tax is reported timely to appropriate jurisdictions and accounted for in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. This individual will actively participate in Sales & Use, and personal property tax audits and will be able to work with both internal and external parties and must be able to handle multiple projects concurrently.

  • Prepare and analyze sales and use tax accrual data to assist in the preparation of sales and use tax returns for multiple states.
  • Perform sales and use tax research and analysis.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications.
  • Support for sales and use tax audit, including compilation of supporting records and documentation.
  • Prepare personal property (asset) tax reporting and returns.
  • Complete unclaimed property returns for various states.
  • Maintain the Firm’s tax related fixed asset books and related reconciliation schedules.
  • Work with the Tax team and outside consultants on fixed asset optimization projects focused on tax savings for the Firm.
  • Coordinate and accumulate relevant data pertaining to the Firm’s information reporting requirements (1099s, 1042s, etc).
  • In collaboration with the Firm’s Accounting team, ensure appropriate controls and standard procedures are followed.
  • Provide training and guidance to the Accounting team relating to sales and use tax matters.
  • Make recommendations for process improvements and automation opportunities.
  • Other related duties and projects as required.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • The Tax Analyst will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification or currently pursuing CPA certification is preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in a “Big 4” of other National CPA firm and/or with a law firm/professional services firm.
  • Advanced understanding of the taxation of mixed services and software; experience with multi-state sales and use tax is required.  
  • This individual should be proactive, results oriented, and have the ability to communicate with personnel at all levels. A proven ability to systematically enhance processes and drive improvements is critical.
  • The ability to collaborate and effectively facilitate information sharing within Finance and other functions within the Firm to meet tax filing deadlines through the year is required.
  • The candidate needs to be a critical thinker who possesses a high level of intellectual curiosity, while at the same time is comfortable navigating the details involved with the tax function and its responsibilities.
