Essential Job Functions

Kirkland & Ellis is seeking a coordinator to support the marketing and business development efforts of the Washington, D.C. office. You will report to the Washington Business Development (BD) Associate Director, and will work closely with the two additional staff members in the office. You will also communicate and collaborate daily with nearly 100 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader business development, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. Our international business development team provides seamless service to our attorneys with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness. We are looking for a self-starter with good judgement and a background in professional services marketing and business development. 

This position has a strong focus on business intelligence and providing marketing research services to the Firm’s attorneys. An emphasis on researching and analyzing competitive and other information from various databases, Internet, and other research systems is essential. You must possess outstanding analytical skills (ability to develop and produce meaningful reports from multiple streams of data) and be able to simply (and concisely) convey complex ideas and information.

 

You will also handle a variety of business development functions which may include one or more of the following: responses to RFPs and business pitches, practice area descriptions and attorney biography maintenance, event management/execution, CRM content maintenance, industry/client trend tracking, and general office/practice operations.

The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with lawyers and staff to achieve results. Strong project management skills and sound judgment are also necessary. The candidate will possess outstanding proofreading and communication (oral and written) skills; the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment; very strong attention to detail and a professional demeanor. A four-year degree or the equivalent is required. At least two years of work experience is required, professional services or law firm experience is a plus.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Conduct online and database research and prepare intelligence reports on clients, potential clients, competitors and industries of interest to the D.C. practices.

  • Update data in the Firm’s marketing contact relationship management (CRM) database, including the review and creation of mailing lists used for direct mail campaigns.

  • Assist with the execution of client-facing pitch materials, responses to RFPs and client presentations, including proofreading, formatting (must have exceptional PowerPoint skills), editing, printing, binding and delivery

  • Provide assistance with the development and accuracy of marketing collateral including practice descriptions, brochures, PowerPoint templates, case summaries, accolade summaries and attorney biographies. Also assist with the production of Kirkland publications, authored by D.C. attorneys.

  • Assist in overseeing strategy for events, such as client-facing Firm-hosted events, industry conference and charitable sponsorships, speaking engagements, client entertainment and other event activities related to the promotion of the D.C. practices. You will assist with the program design and all aspects of the execution, including attendance tracking/follow-up in CRM.

  • Assist with survey responses and award submissions, as needed.

    OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Provide general assistance to the BD Associate Director relating to the initiatives of the DC office and BD department.

  • This position has a strong focus on business intelligence and providing marketing research services to the Firm’s attorneys.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills

Strong organization and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with high-level attorneys, staff, clients and guests of the Firm are essential. The successful candidate will be able to work independently to make intelligent, informed decisions. Kirkland demands quality work from every employee (often in high-pressure and deadline-driven scenarios). You will be required to multitask and prioritize effectively. A history of taking initiative is essential to success in this position.

Candidates must have solid project management skills, business acumen, and an ability to understand marketplace trends. You will be required to handle ambiguity, influence others and find ways to move initiatives forward to meet critical deadlines and produce results.

The position requires meticulous writing and proofing skills, and as well as an aptitude for learning new software. A Bachelor’s degree is required and an ideal candidate will have a least two years’ experience in the law firm/professional services environment.

  • Strong skills in MS Office software with expertise in Microsoft SharePoint, Excel and PowerPoint preferred. 
  • Prior InterAction or other CRM knowledge highly preferable.
